The transcendent Divya Desam of Vaikuntha — the eternal supreme abode of Vishnu beyond all cycles of creation, the final destination of all liberated souls.
Overview
Thiruparampadam — the Supreme Abode — is the Vaikuntha of Shri Vaishnavism, the eternal realm beyond Thiruparkadal and beyond all cosmic cycles of creation and dissolution. While Thiruparkadal belongs to the manifest cosmos, Thiruparampadam exists in the transcendent dimension where time, space, and karma have no hold. The Alvars, especially Nammalvar, describe Thiruparampadam as the ultimate goal of all Vaishnava life — the state in which the individual soul (jiva) attains eternal proximity and loving service to Vishnu without losing its individual identity.
In the Shri Vaishnava tradition, Thiruparampadam is the destination reached after prapatti (total surrender) — not through individual effort alone, but through divine grace. The annual Vaikunta Ekadashi festival at all major Vaishnava temples celebrates the opening of the Paramapada Vasal (Gateway to Vaikuntha), symbolically re-enacting the soul's journey to this transcendent Desam.
Sacred Narrative
When Nammalvar attained the final state of union with Vishnu, the god himself is said to have extended his divine form and gathered the saint's soul directly into Thiruparampadam. The Alvars describe this realm as filled with eternal liberated souls (nitya-suris) in perpetual devotional bliss, with no impurity, no forgetting, and no separation. The famous verse 'Veedu min muhalellam' (Leave off mundane life) is Nammalvar's direct call to journey toward this abode.

Visit Guide
Thiruparampadam has no physical location and is not approached through pilgrimage. The Shri Vaishnava tradition teaches that it is attained solely through divine grace following prapatti (unconditional surrender). Participating in Vaikunta Ekadashi celebrations at Srirangam, Tirupati, or any Divya Desam — and passing through the Paramapada Vasal — is the nearest ritual approximation of this transcendent journey.
