Overview
Thiru Seerala Vinnagaram is one of the eleven Divya Desams in the Thirunangur cluster in Nagapattinam district. The presiding deity is Trivikrama Vinnagara Perumal — a sky-palace manifestation combining the Trivikrama three-stride form with the Vinnagaram celestial-palace concept, creating a particularly expansive theological image: the cosmic-striding Vishnu who simultaneously dwells in the celestial palace. Thirumangai Alvar sang for all eleven Thirunangur Desams in the Tiruppathanangal, describing the paddy fields, water channels, and the divine radiance suffusing the landscape. The Thai Pournami Garuda Seva brings this and all eleven Thirunangur Desams to life in the annual all-night procession.
Sacred Narrative
The legend for Thiru Seerala Vinnagaram connects to the moment when Trivikrama's third stride — the foot that came down on Mahabali's head — left its divine imprint on this precise spot of earth. The celestial palace (Vinnagaram) is said to have descended around this divine footprint, marking the location as both the earthly record of the cosmic stride and the site where heaven came to earth.
